Grand Theft Auto games are known for their attention to detail. Gamers are discovering new secrets and easter eggs even decades after the titles hit the market. Vice City — one of the finest creations of Rockstar Games — is no stranger to the formula.
With a redone Definitive Edition now out in the wild, it is no wonder that gamers are re-invested in the game.
GTA: Vice City’s secrets range from hilarious to extremely disturbing
10) Submarine wrecks near North Point Mall and city junkyard
Sunken submarine near North Point Mall
Vice City is a fictional version of Miami, the largest city in Florida. Its waters host numerous secrets being a coastal settlement, including wrecked submarines.
Players spot such a sight near the North Point Mall. An enormous sunken submarine can be spotted underwater. However, since Tommy Vercetti cannot swim, exploring this easter egg can be difficult. Thus, gamers should get on a boat or apply appropriate cheats before exploring the location with a car.
There are more wrecked submarines in the game. Another notable example can be the sighting near the city’s junkyard. Most gamers might ignore this rather dull part of the city. However, the developers have something for hardcore explorers.
9) Unlimited ammo and armor and explorable interiors of Hotel Harrison
The front facade of Hotel Harrison
Hotel Harrison is a popular location in GTA: Vice City. Traditionally, players are not allowed to enter the interiors. However, for modding enthusiasts, Rosenberg’s office opens up for exploration.
Although several missions show the office in cutscenes, being able to check it out on foot is a different experience.
Try searching around Hotel Harrison. Players can pick up armor, ammunition, and an Uzi from a surrounding area. The best part is that these items respawn. Thus, players can stock up on as much as they want!
8) Beach ball on Starfish Island and Vice City Beach
Empty pool by the easternmost mansion on Starfish Island
A few Vice City secret locations host fun games that players should check out. For instance, the fun beach ball game on Starfish Island is worth exploring.
Starfish Island hosts multiple easter eggs in the video game. Gamers can spot a unique pool shaped like a woman’s body. It is home to Ricardo Diaz — a notable in-game NPC — in the original release from 2002.
However, the island packs a fun mini-game in two locations. To begin with, locate either the easternmost or the northeasternmost mansion on the island. Now, go to their respective swimming pools.
Try running towards a colorful ball on the pool’s bed. The ball will bounce up. Now, try to keep the ball in the air with a header. A score counter will appear that turns it into a fun game.
Players can spot a beach ball on Vice City Beach. Running into this ball triggers the mini-game as well.
Beach ball might be the most delicate secret in the game.
7) Moon landing scene in InterGlobal Studio
Inside Stage 8 of InterGlobal Studio
NASA’s 1969 moon landings are debated to date. Many conspiracy theories suggest that the Apollo 11 mission was faked. Thus, it is no surprise that Rockstar Games jumped into the controversy and did their part to add fuel to the fire.
Try checking out the sets in InterGlobal Studio. One such Stage B accurately recreates Neil Armstrong’s moon landing clip. Although the developers’ intentions are clear, the scene does not pack any further info.
Despite not being one of the best-kept secrets, it is one of the diciest moves of Rockstar Games.
6) Caves in the sea
Some underwater caves in Vice City
Listed among some of the weirdest secrets of Vice City are the caves in its waters. They are only accessible via the underwater portal — a glaring glitch in the original release — or via mods and cheats.
Players can explore the caves on foot. Multiple fishes, tortoises, and rare whales can be spotted in these underwater formations. However, gamers might drown if they get too close to the surface.
5) Hidden building in the “Hit the courier” mission
Interior of the hidden Print Works building
Another weird secret of GTA: Vice City is the hidden building that can only be accessed in the “Hit the Courier” mission. We are tasked with killing the NPC driving a black sentinel. However, do not blow the car up and keep following it. It will stop near a facility in the Little Haiti district.
A bunch of armed guys will be waiting for Tommy near the building. Once they are gunned down, gamers can access the hidden building. What’s weirder is that the building is completely empty except for a single printer in the center.
4) Easter Egg near the Vice City News building
The literal easter egg in Vice City
One of Vice City’s most hilarious secrets is a literal easter egg. It is a brown egg with a “Happy Easter” inscription and is placed on a concrete pedestal.
Try locating the Vice City News building in the game. Now, head up to the helipad on the roof. Once you get past the helicopter, sprint towards a cream-colored adjacent building. Head straight towards the closest window. It will be marked with a yellow lamp.
Although it may sound weird, Tommy will skip through the locked window into a secret room that is mostly empty except for the pedestal and the easter egg.
3) Scarface references in Apartment 3C, Ocean Beach
Blood-bathed walls in Apartment 3C
GTA: Vice City draws massive inspiration from the 1983 crime movie set in Miami, Scarface. In fact, Tommy wears the same Hawaiian shirt as the protagonist of Scarface.
Drive to Ocean Beach. Now, locate Apartment 3C. It is an enterable building in the game. In the washroom of the building, gamers can spot excessive blood spillage by the bathtub. A chainsaw can be picked up at the location.
This gore setup is a direct reference to the crime movie. Rockstar Games initially planned to appoint Apartment 3C as Tommy’s safe house. However, plans changed during development. But, the developers’ work on the building remained unaltered.
2) Ghost World in Vice City
Ghost world in Vice City
Apartment 3C hosts another secret. Other GTA games in the 3D universe are known for their iconic ghost worlds and glitched-out versions of the map. Vice City is no exception to this bug.
Try jumping into the blood-spilled bathtub in Apartment 3C. Now, sprint towards the wall. This might put gamers in the ghost world of Vice City.
Ghost worlds are fun to explore. They are generally void of any NPCs and other in-game distractions. Players get an open map to freely roam around.
Since players can only access the ghost town via a weird glitch, Rockstar has ironed out the issue with the redone Definitive Edition release of the game.
1) Drowned man with concrete feet and shark sightings near Leaf Links
Murder scene near Leaf Links
Gamers can spot multiple references to hideous crimes in Vice City. One such sighting can be spotted near the shores of Leaf Links.
Upon careful observation, players can witness a fat guy in boxers with cement shoes underwater. It is a common murder tactic used by gangsters in the 1980s to hide their crimes and prevent the body from getting discovered.
This nerve-wracking sighting can be extremely disturbing to some. It is a symbol of how merciless the criminal world of Vice City is.
Near this location, gamers can also spot a couple of sharks in the game. Although rare, Vice City’s waters have multiple sharks. However, they are not lethal.
