In 2019, Google announced the Google Stadia which was a cloud game streaming service that served users till 2022, when it finally came to an end after Google shut down the servers. The main reason for this mishap may be its failure to meet the company's expectation of income.
Who will be eligible for a refund?
Further, Google promised to refund all the hardware purchases to the user. The Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, Play and Watch with Google TV packages, and the Stadia Controller users will also get their refund. Furthermore, all game purchases including the add-on content will be refunded as well.
Unfortunately, Stadia pro subscriptions will not be eligible for a refund. Any pre-ordered game with any downloadable content will also be refunded. Within mid-January 2023, every user will be refunded, as said by Google.
In which method transactions will be processed is still unknown, but hopefully, Google will soon let the users know as soon as all the decisions are finalized.
Issues after taking down the service and workarounds to prevent it
According to Google, the service will start winding down from now on, but still, players can game on it till January 2023. Till then gamers will get enough time to complete their games from where they left off, although there may be a few issues in a few games.
Luckily the technology for Google Stadia will be recycled in Google's other platforms and services, and it won't go wasted.
The company also shared that members of the Stadia team would find new jobs in other parts of the company. Google handled this thing pretty well since if not, it would have caused a lot of crises in employment.
Now it is just a few months' wait to see whether Google discontinued it for shortage in revenue or theirs any other story behind it.
